Humility

Submission: Noun-the action or fact of accepting or yielding to a superior force or to the will or authority of another person.
Humilityfreedom from pride or arrogance: the quality or state of being humble.

Psalm 25:9 (NIV)
He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.

Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV)
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

When we don’t do things out of selfish ambition or vain conceit God guides us in what is right. If we consider others in our day-to-day lives, in decisions and actions God will guide us in what is right. If we not only look to our interest but also look out for others, God will guide us into what is right. Humility and submission are key in our walks with Christ. James 4:10 (NIV): Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. When we put God’s desires above ours we are humbling ourselves and submitting to His will.  A humble person is dependent on God. Being humble works hand in hand with submission. As we submit our will and desires to the Lord by putting His will before ours, He exalts or honors us in due time.  1 Peter 5:6 (NLT) so humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.  This also reminds me of Matthew 6:33  (NLT)-Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Dying to fleshly desires and ourselves lands us in God’s will. In relinquishing our desires, we then submit or humble ourselves before God and bow to His perfect will. Sin is prideful because it pushes us to please ourselves without considering others, our soul, or God. It makes us focus on what we want and our selfish ambitions. If we submit/humble ourselves God guides us into what is right. He helps us make better decisions.

In our daily lives when we acknowledge God, invite Him and His perfect wisdom into our situations and decision-making, He directs our path. Proverbs 3:6 (NIV) in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.  Can your lack of submission in different areas of your life, be the very reason why your life is in chaos? Or the reason why your finances do not align with the promises of God; or the reason why your marriage is falling apart, why your parenting skills are questionable, why your friendships are nonexistent or why you are double-minded and unstable? Submission and humility also align with trust because to be dependent on God, you have to trust Him. When you trust someone, you know they won’t steer you wrong. When you trust God, you can blindly follow His lead. You have to trust that God is the Alpha and Omega. He does not only know the end from the beginning but is the beginning and the end. He holds your future. You have to know that He is for you and not against you. That He has great plans for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). You have to know that He even corrects you like a parent because as a good father, He wants to see you better. He is the God who will never leave you nor forsake you. Trust Him and hand over your entire life to Him withholding nothing. Submit to His divine nudges and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. Because then, and only then,  He can make your path straight. Only then, can He guide you into what is right.

Let’s Pray:

Dad, I pray you help us submit every area of our lives to you withholding nothing. Help us to really hand over the entire pie and not just slices. Help us to desire what You desire and submit especially when what we want does not align with your perfect will for our lives. We want to be lead by your Spirit Dad because in Your will we are safe. Help us to hate pride as much as You do because it robs us of true intimacy with You. Pride also keeps us out of Your will, so please help us to submit and humble ourselves before you. Thank you that your promise is to guide us into what is right.  We can’t go wrong when you lead Dad so thank you for your guidance. In Jesus’ name, I pray! Amen!

I love you but Jesus loves you more J
